TOURS FROM DARWIN TO LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK 

Our tours work well for most ages. That said, we generally find kids 6 and up get the most out of the day — the walks, the swimming, the wildlife. Younger children are absolutely welcome with a parent keeping a close eye, just know the terrain involves stairs, uneven paths near the falls, and swimming spots that need adult supervision throughout.

Seniors are equally welcome. If you can manage short walks with occasional breaks and get in and out of a vehicle comfortably, you will be fine. The pace is relaxed and we always work around the group. If you have any doubts about a specific family member, just send us a message before booking — we will give you a straight answer.

No athlete required. Most of the walks to the waterfalls and rock pools are short — between 5 and 20 minutes — with some steps and uneven ground here and there. If you have normal mobility and can handle a short walk with a rest when needed, you will be perfectly comfortable.

These tours are built for everyday travellers, not hiking groups. And if a particular walk feels like too much on the day, you can always stay by the vehicle or at the picnic area while others explore — no pressure either way. The point is to enjoy it, not to push through.

Keep it light and practical. Breathable clothing, a hat, and comfortable closed shoes cover you for the walks. Since swimming is a genuine highlight of the day — not an afterthought — wear your swimmers under your clothes from the start. Bring a towel and water shoes if you prefer extra grip on wet rock, though most people manage fine without.

Sunscreen and insect repellent matter more than people expect. The Top End sun is intense year-round and the mozzies near water are real. Pack both and apply before you leave in the morning. A small dry bag or zip-lock for your phone is worth it if you want to take it into the water.

Swimming is one of the real highlights of Litchfield and the designated spots — Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole, Wangi Falls — are actively monitored by NT Parks rangers before each dry season opening. Crocodile management is taken seriously: night spotting, trap placement, bank surveys. Swimming is only permitted once a site is officially declared safe.

Your guide will always confirm where it is fine to get in on the day. Never swim outside designated areas, never at dusk or dawn, and read the signs at each site before entering. The risk is managed, not eliminated — this is the Northern Territory — but with a bit of common sense the swimming here is genuinely wonderful.

Absolutely — solo travellers are a big part of our groups and honestly one of the reasons the small group format works so well. You get a genuinely social experience without the chaos of a bus tour. Most solo travellers end up having a better day than they expected, simply because of the people they meet along the way.

If you want company, it is right there. If you prefer to keep to yourself and just take in the scenery, that is completely fine too. There is no pressure to perform or socialise — people find their own pace. The group size stays small enough that it never feels impersonal.

Most of our tours run as full-day experiences — around 8 to 10 hours including pick-up and drop-off from Darwin. You leave in the morning, spend a proper full day at the waterfalls, swimming holes, and other sites, and are back at your accommodation by evening.

Yes. Unlimited cold water throughout the day, fresh fruit and snacks on the road, and a proper sit-down lunch — meat, vegetables, and wraps to build yourself at the table. Everything is included, nothing to organise, nothing to carry.

If you have dietary requirements, let us know when you book and we will sort it out. We have handled vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and others without issue. The goal is that food is one less thing on your mind so you can focus on actually enjoying the day.

Litchfield runs year-round and a bit of rain rarely changes the day — the park looks extraordinary in wet conditions and the waterfalls are at full force. That said, heavy rain can occasionally affect road access or swimming hole openings, and safety always comes first.

If a tour has to be cancelled for safety reasons, we will contact you as early as possible and offer a full reschedule or refund. You will never lose your booking because of weather.
